The Louvre, Paris

Louvre

The renowned Louvre art museum in Paris completed the installation of an Intellivox VA (Voice Alarm) system in 2001. The system was installed in the large underground area, located under the magnificent glass and steel pyramid that was constructed between 1983 and 1993 by architect I.M. Pei. The area underneath the Pyramid serves as a central hub with information desks, ticket offices and restaurants and gives access to the distinct wings of the museum.

In the Louvre, it was proven once again that beautiful architecture and excellent speech intelligibility can be reached at the same time.

Il Duomo di Milano

Il Duomo di Milano

One of the oldest and most impressive cathedrals in Italy, and in fact in the whole world, is to be found in Milan, Il Duomo di Milano. The reverberation time in this monumental building exceeds ten seconds, and speech intelligibility has always been a major issue. In 2001, an AXYS Intellivox sound system was installed, dramatically improving intelligibility. The system was supplied by Italian distributor Prase Engineering, and installed by the contractor ‘Fabbrica dell Duomo di Milano’.

With sixteen contact gates over 150.000 m2, it is one of the largest terminals in the United States. AXYS Intellivox was specifi ed to deliver excellent speech intelligibility in the impressive Departures and Arrivals Hall.

Paddington Station

Paddington Station

Paddington Station was opened by the Great Western Railway on the 16th of January 1854 and is a living testament to the architecture and design of Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859), arguably one of the world’s finest engineers. The original Brunel Station (spans 1-3) comprises of a train shed with three barrel vaults of clear arch construction (no arches or tiers) and has achieved English Heritage Grade 1 listed status. The first three spans are symmetrical, spans 1 and 3 being 21.2 m and 20.7 m wide and 213.4 m long and the centre span being 31.2 m wide by 213.4 m long. Over the years the station has gone through many phases of modernisation, the most recent phase was the lawn and concourse remodeling by architect Nicholas Grinshaw and Partners in conjunction with Rodney Fitch.

In order to facilitate the UEFA EURO 2004 tournament Portugal constructed or remodelled 10 stadiums in different parts of the country. Braga, Portugal’s third city is home to the Braga Municipal Stadium that hosted two of the EURO 2004 group stage matches. The stadium, opened in December 2003, has a capacity of 30,000 seats and was designed by the well known Portuguese architect Souto Moura. However, it is not just the architecture of this stadium that is unique; so is the sound system! Braga was the first ever stadium installation of the AXYS Target system and one of the few exclusive venues worldwide that have experienced the benefits of Duran Audio’s DDS, (digital directivity synthesis), technology.

German Lantag

Duran Audio Germany was asked to supply an Intellivox system for the Parliament of Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf. Nordrhein-Westfalen has 18 million inhabitants and is the most densely populated country of the federal republic of Germany, which it joined in 1949. Throughout history NRW has been the biggest and strongest industrial region of the federation, a position it still holds. Düsseldorf is the capital of NRW and seat of the ‘Landtag’, the Parliament of NRW which consists of 230 delegates. The present building was opened in 1988 and its unique skyline builds upon the idea that the architecture should reflect the function of the building; this is achieved by taking the circular form of the plenary hall as the basis for the rest of the buildings design.

Royal wedding

The wedding of Crown Prince Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and the Argentine Maximá Zorreguieta, his future Queen, was a major event, broadcasted live and viewed by a worldwide television audience of millions. The wedding took place on the second of february 2002 in the former Stock Exchange in Amsterdam, and the sound reinforcement called for an intelligent approach. AXYS Intellivox was selected as the ‘invisible’ PA-system.

At Brussels International Airport the hypermodern Pier A was put into service in 2002. The pier is 650 metres long, 38 metres wide, and equipped with 31 contact gates. The sound system in the concourse consists of 34 AXYS Intellivox columns. System design was by Lichtveld Buis & Partners of the Netherlands, engineering by Tyco Integrated Systems Belgium
